By Austin Gambino, The Cruise Web Team

The cruising industry is always innovating, adding new ships, new features, and finding new destinations for their cruise ships. That’s because cruising enthusiasts are always looking for an exciting, or possibly exclusive destination for a unique vacation experience. Let’s take a look at three ‘off-the-radar’ cruising destinations you can visit this year.

Po River Cruising (Italy):

River Cruises have become an incredibly popular cruising option in the past few years, as they offer a special, regionally-influenced experience in all aspects of the cruise vacation. Uniworld River Cruises has taken the lead in Italy by offering two Po River Cruise itineraries in 2013, each of which is an incredible vista of Italian culture, history, and scenery. This cruising option will include ports-of-call like Rome, Florence, and Venice among other classic and alluring Italian cities.

Myanmar (Burma) Cruises (Southeast Asia):

It is not often in today’s society that you can explore a destination that has been virtually unchanged since British colonial times, which is the case for most of Myanmar, a sovereign state in Southeast Asia. As a result of a 2011 release of military rule, the country has finally opened up to tourism.

This exotic destination is so special because you can see very raw, undeveloped places filled with natural beauty that may not be the same in just a few years. In addition, cultural enthusiasts will be fascinated by the unique people of this destination. You can cruise to Myanmar and Southeast Asia in 2013 with cruise companies like Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises, Viking River Cruises, Silversea Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Oceania Cruises, and Princess Cruises that include a variety of different itineraries and lengths.

Mississippi River Cruising (United States):

Another brand new cruising location you can choose in 2013 is the Mississippi River, which runs through the heart of the southern United States. Avalon Waterways is offering two itineraries along North America’s largest river system, which spans historic and exciting states like Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana. These historic and authentic cruising experiences will include stops in classic American cities like Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Chicago, St. Louis, and Mark Twain’s hometown, Hannibal. Mississippi River Cruises will include a look at American art, history, literature, cuisine, and of course, the legendary personalities of the South!
