The Celestyal Crystal collides with a tanker in Turkey

This past week the Celestyal Crystal (former Louis Crystal) and a tanker collided off the coast of Gallipoli.

It was reported that the 852 passengers and 382 crew members on board the Celestyal Crystal for their eastern Mediterranean cruise were not compromised in terms of safety, nor were the crew members on the tanker.

There were minor casualties however, as 2 cruise ship crew members and 1 passenger suffered minor injuries. Passengers were duly disembarked, and the rest of the voyage was necessarily canceled. Celestyal Crystals made arrangements for passengers to continue their holiday onboard other ships within the Celestyal fleet. Moreover, Passengers will receive full refunds for their cruise fares and offered second, complimentary 7-night cruises, valid through the end of 2016.

The Celestyal Crystal unfortunately suffered some structural damage and is now awaiting an inspection in Gallipoli. It's not clear at this juncture whether subsequent Celestyal Crystal cruises will be affected as the cause and damage of the accident still is being investigated.

The Celestyal Crystal is utilized by Cuba Cruises to operate cruises around the island of Cuba during the winter season.
